Initial Ideas- Digipak

To start my digipak I started with writing down a few ideas about the different images, colour schemes and font styles that I can use. I have listed a few things that link with my production as well as staying true to the codes and conventions of my chosen genre. I now have a general idea about what I will include in my digipak and the sort of theme I will be carrying out throughout my website as well.

Idea 1:
In a general these ideas dark theme to it as it represents the feeling of lose which links back to the song it self, this idea has a dark colour scheme which will allow me to make certain things stand out. However, a disadvantage to this is it does not link in with my chosen genre as much as I would like it to.

Idea 2:
In Idea 2 the main thing that will stand out is the aspect of nature. This is a very good advantage to me as it stays true to the codes and conventions as well as linking in with the production due to the use of naturalistic mise en scenes throughout the production. The colour scheme also gives the digipak the idea of lose and emptiness which links in very well with the lyrics of the production.

Conventions of Digipaks

Image result for digipaks

A digipak is a marketing product which often includes a certain lay out which include folds, front, back and inside. These digipaks tend to have different styles which vary from one genre to another. These digipaks also include a range of different things such as art work, a certain framing style, a certain appeal to suit the target audience and a way of ordering information for it to be easily seen.

Folds:

Digipaks often have certain folds which are use to hold in the CD as well as promote the album. The main promoters of the album are the front and back panel as they are used to draw in the customers. The inside of the panel are used to provide more information to the audience. The inside of the digipacks tend to be more toned down that the outside as it does not need to attract the audiences attention but give information. There is also a plastic area which secures the disc in place.

Front:
The front of the digiopak is seen as the most important as it is the thing that will attract the audience attention. There are main things that must be involved in the front which are eye catching pictures which relate to the artist and the song. This allows the audience to make a relation to the artist through the digipak. The name of the song as well as the album are listed on the front as well to insure that the audience know what they are buying.

Back:
The back of the digipak must have some relation to the front through things like the font as well as the art work and artist name. The key features that must be included are a bare code, track list and the record label. These things are always found on the back no matter what genre it is. This allows the shop to sell the record.

Inside:
The inside of the digipak there is the plastic cover as well as the CD, art work which links to the back and the front of the digipak as well as extra information which can be things like lyrics, songs as well as personal messages from the artist. This can be seen as important as the artist is able to connect with the fans by thanking them for buying the digipak.

Review On Initial Ideas

Narrative:
The ideas of the narrative have been great so far as it relates very closely to the lyrics and will also allow us to have a clear story line which can be adapted if needs be. The narrative that we are planning to have also links very closely to the indie folk music genre as it has a lot of meaning to it allowing the audience to relate to the video as well as connect with the artist. Another positive to this narrative is the fact that we will be able to manipulate how to audience feels towards which character by filming shots in certain ways as well as having a strong emotional performance.

Codes & Conventions:
While planning out initial ideas, one thing which we focused on majorly is following the codes and conventions of our genre. By doing so we will have a very effective music video that can be edited to the plan we will set. The codes and conventions which we will follow will also allow us to carry out the theme of the music through the imagery. This will make our music video very effective as we will be able to make sure the audience feel the emotions and sadness we want them to feel.

Target audience and character identity:
as a result of us carrying out this research we will be able to make the production very effective as we will give the audience what they want and what they are expecting while sticking to the codes and conventions of our genre. This research has helped us layout certain points which we can stick to help engage the audience as well as staying true to the codes and conventions of the genre.

Target Audience

Acoustic Folk music has a general target audience of people in their late teens sometimes early twenties depending on the song. For our song (Let her go by passenger) the target audience is 16-19-year-old. They are people who know what they like in terms of the type of music and the style of the beat but are still developing their identity and finding out new things about themselves. This allows the target audience for this genre to grow as the older the teenagers get the more emotions they start to feel therefore they are more likely to listen to Acoustic Folk as the genre is filled with emotions and the lyrics have a lot of meaning to them.

This demography of the target audience is a full-time student around the age of 16-19 living at home but has a part time job. This allows them to spend their earning on things they are interested in and things they like such as music and clothing instead of bills and so on. The target audience is likely to attend festivals such as V festival and also local gigs to listen to new upcoming artists. The listener of this genre is also less likely to live in a major city like London and are more likely to be in a place like Manchester due to the area being localised and not very mainstream. The target audience is not into any specific brands instead they shop at different shops and buy what they like and what suits them, they are also very interested in expressing themselves through their clothes and the different colours they wear. They are also not interested in mainstream fashion instead they do their own things.
